When an image is made of your brain or nervous system, Dr. Steven Smith is one of the radiologists who may interpret the images, thereby assisting your doctor in formulating a plan of treatment. Dr. Smith grew up in Houston, Texas. He attended Columbia University in New York, for both his undergraduate and medical education. He is:

  • Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology
  • A Senior Member of the American Society of Neuroradiology

He became familiar with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) during its earliest use in the United States through visiting fellowships at The Cleveland Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Smith began his career in the Albany area in 1985 and interpreted the first MRI examination performed in the Capital Region. In 1991, he joined the medical imaging staff at St. Peter's Hospital, where he was for many years Chief of Neuroradiology. He is a member of the American College of Radiology, the New York State Radiological Society, the American Society of Neuroradiology, the Medical Society of the County of Albany, and the American Medical Association.
